Is a Microwave safe to use after my daughter burnt socks in it?

My 18 year old future nasa employee decided that her socks were not warm enough so she threw them in the microwave. The socks had metal on them and needless to say caught on fire. The fire shot out the back and bottom of the microwave. My 16 year old decided to put something in the microwave about half an hour later for like 30 seconds or so. His stuff heated up but I am worried that I might have a radiation leak from the bonfire. Additionally the smell is awful. I would prefer to buy a new microwave but this was an expensive microwave and an equal replacement would not be cheap. Any suggestions on if it is safe?

Your daughter is 18 and should realize that actions have consequences. Microwaves were not designed to heat socks and she damaged your microwave. Let your daughter buy a new one. If flames shot out the bottom there is the possibility that wiring or insulation was damaged. I would not risk having a fire in my house and replace the microwave.
